Jo, Director of Summertree Architects, has over 12 years experience in Architectural practice and has specialised in residential architecture for the vast majority of her career.
I have always been passionate about design. At college I took an Art and Design Foundation course, specialising in 3D design and was awarded a Distinction.
I went on to study Architecture at Kingston University, London, where I completed my Professional Diploma, the final part of my Architectural studies, enabling me to become Chartered with the RIBA, again graduating with Distinction.
When embarking on a new project my first priority is to get to know my clients to understand their requirements and their 'site', to create a space and built form that will meet their needs and deliver a practical and inspiring space in which they will enjoy living or working.
I can bring value where a site may be 'challenging', having previously specialised in overturning planning refusals, working for a Planning Consultancy. I also have extensive experience liaising and negotiating with Local Authorities to develop Listed properties, properties of local heritage interest and in Conservation Areas.
I have a realistic approach to budget and understand this will be a key factor in most, if not all, projects. I have a track record of delivering projects that are in budget, without compromising quality or design integrity.
I also understand that undertaking building work, while usually exciting, can be a daunting and potentially stressful experience. I aim to take the stress out by guiding clients through the process - from explaining statutory requirements (Planning, Building Regulations etc) and setting out timeframes and likely costs (fees to factor in) early on and by being on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Summertree Architects was borne of a desire to deliver a personal yet cost effective service to clients. As a small, home-based, practice I can keep my fees very competitive whilst assuring you an efficient and personal service.
